EIGHTH GRADE PROMOTION STANDARDS

No "F's" grades on FINAL grade report of second semester

Students earning 1 or more "F" grades in the final grade report will be required to attend alternative school for the fall semester.

Students who earn multiple failing grades in the first semester are encouraged to attend the after-school howework program, while regularly checking progress with teachers.

Students must attend 90% of the days in second semester.

In addition to the above policy, students who earn 2 or more "U's" on final semester report card may not be permitted to attend the promotion activities.

This also holds true for students who are suspended during the last week of school, or are serving an activity suspension as described below.

It is unlawful to manufacture, distribute, dispense, possess, or use a controlled substance or alcohol on District property, including all District owned vehicles. The same provisions are in effect at all school-sponsored events or extra-curricular activities while off school premises. “Look-alike drugs” shall be considered the same as controlled substances for the purpose of this policy and related policies. Students who violate the provisions of the District’s Drug-Free Schools policy will be subject to disciplinary action, including suspension and/or expulsion.  Any student who is suspended for drug or alcohol related incidents, or are recommended for expulsion for any reason will be prohibited from attending or participating in any extracurricular school activity for a period of 30 days (Sundays are not counted in the time period). THIS RESTRICTION APPLIES TO THE PROMOTION CEREMONY AS WELL.

If a student earns one or more “F” grades in the last trimester they WILL BE REQUIRED TO ATTEND AN ALTERNATIVE SCHOOL setting (Noyo School or other transitional setting) during the Fall semester. The student will be admitted to High School only after successful completion of one semester at the alternative site.
